Rainy Chinatown Morning

Neon reflections, steaming dumplings, and the hum of a foggy city

Chinatown has long been one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco—it feels like meeting a celebrity every time I visit.

When I first moved to Oakland, the region was in a terrible drought. So, when the forecast finally called for rain, my first thought was Chinatown. I made a plan to wake up early and capture the streets in the quiet, misty glow of a rainy morning.

The night before, I felt like a kid waiting for snow—restless with excitement. And when I woke up to the sound of raindrops against my window, I knew it was going to be a perfect morning.

These photos bring me comfort—not just because they remind me of my time in the Bay, but because they feel like comfort food. The same kind of warmth you get from a steaming basket of dim sum in this iconic neighborhood.

What do these photos make you feel? Have you ever explored Chinatown on a rainy day? Or do you have a favorite cozy spot in the neighborhood? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
