Fleet Week Air Show

Soaring jets, towering ships, and the pulse of the city’s waterfront

Despite being an unpopular opinion among Bay Area locals, I love Fleet Week! I used to spend my lunch breaks outside, watching the Blue Angels practice their flight routes over my workplace in preparation for the big air show. The whole city comes alive as the Parade of Ships kicks off the week, leading up to three thrilling air shows over the weekend.

What many people don’t realize is that San Francisco’s October skies are notoriously foggy. More often than not, the air show is shrouded in thick mist, sometimes leading to postponements or cancellations. But on those rare, crystal-clear Bay days? The show is absolutely spectacular.

From the skydivers drifting gracefully down to the precision of the Blue Angels, every part of Fleet Week amazes me. Fun fact: When the Blue Angels fly in their tightest formation, they’re only 18 inches apart!

What’s your take on Fleet Week? Are you a fellow fan, or do you side with the locals who aren’t so keen on it? Have you ever seen the Blue Angels in action? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
